Just aim to be the best version of you, you can be. Just like John Lennon said in a song once “It’s easy if you try”. I just feel like people have misplaced their common sense as of late.
Why have we gone off and gotten our feathers ruffled by the actions of the ignorant? Stupid people do stupid things daily, there isn’t any stopping them. Ultimately we’ve gone off and become more like them. Case in point social distancing seems to have up and disappeared overnight.
Why would something that is so desperately necessary at this time dissolve? So people can go swimming at the local water parks or gamble away their new raise from the ridiculous pay increase they received while they are on unemployment? Maybe it’s just to get out of the house and stand for a cause, but I feel we’ve gone about it the wrong way.
Whether or not you take any side of this protest is something that you as an individual are entitled to. Just remember that you’d probably be a lot safer making a social media post or writing a letter to your local government before you go out and stand too close to someone who isn’t entirely thinking correctly and you end up sick, incarcerated or both.
Here I sit thinking to myself the events that have taken place cannot be changed. What can be changed is the outlook of the people, simply treat others as you’d like to be treated yourself. So, remind me when was it okay to take out your frustration on those around you and the city you call home?
If by now you still have the urge to go out and become another sheep in the herd I can’t stop you. But I will ask you to take a moment to reflect on the actions you’ve taken during your life, anytime that you have been frustrated with someone for doing something to you, you didn’t like or even if you were the one doing the heckling. Did you, or, do you think you’d like to be on the opposite side? I don’t think you would, but I’m not you and as a person I don’t think we have the right to say what another can or cannot do. Parents aside of course.
Only the changes we make each day about ourselves make the largest difference. You can’t change someone by telling them to change, you have to show them how and be the example so they can see what it is like.
Our aim is to be better as a whole society and not just repeating the cycle of saying one thing and doing another. I learned that all to well from my parents and having the opportunity to break the cycle I chose to make better decisions in my life. I hope that these words can encourage you to be the best you, you can be.
Be the change you want to see in this world, because being nice to one group of people means nothing if you don’t follow through and treat everyone the same. All lives matter period. I don’t say it to be facetious or disrespectful in light of the current situation but this type of issue happens daily all over the world with different ethnicities and the only way to end it isn’t one incidence at a time. It will be a global collaborative effort and we need it sooner than we think.
I’ll end this post with this week’s practice. Which the aim of it was to write the word…you guessed it aim! Seventy two times for fun. Oh and what fun it was, I love sitting at my desk and powering out some beautiful words. My struggle lately has been making the x-height of my letters end 1/4 space from the top of the provided guide lines. I keep mistaking it for the actual x-height and making my letters too large. Thus preventing me from fitting the entire word again in the aforementioned provided guides. Keep this in mind if you are practicing with the Spencerian System of Practical Penmanship copy books.
Until next week, stay safe, positive and sane. Keep a level head and think before you act. Happy Practicing!
